A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones. PROVERBS 12:4

In Biblical times, names were taken seriously.  There was a special thought and meaning that went into naming a child just entering into the world.  For examples, the root name Moses means to pull or draw out,  David means beloved or favorite, and Nehemiah means God comforts.

Have you ever researched your own name and the meaning that goes with it.  After researching my own, I was more than pleasantly surprised.  As a matter of fact, I strutted around with the knowledge that my name, Steven, meant “Crowned One”.  Afterall, to be a crowned one suggested some type of royalty and the special favor that went with it.  I was pridefully content with being that special until I read this article of Neil Kennedy’s Daily Champion.  My frail pride bubble blew up and a new truth shed light on the real reason I’ve been blessed by my parents to be named Steven.  I’ll explain why in my summary, First, here is Neil’s article:

Your Wife is Your Crown

PRINCIPLE: Draw strength from your wife.

There is no greater asset for a man than a strong wife beside him. There is no greater weakness for a man than to have a shameful wife.

Job’s wife is an example of a woman who shamed her husband at a time when he needed her most. Job was suffering from a series of satanic attacks—thieves, fire, raiding parties, tornadoes, and disease—disaster upon disaster. And his wife prodded him to curse God and die (Job 2:9).

You can imagine Job’s disappointment with the mother of his ten children. Job languished that his “crown was removed from his head” (Job 19:9). His wife was a disgrace.

As men who are striving to be authentic, there are some who are struggling. You may be going through something disastrous or facing tragic events. You may have even suffered betrayal by your wife. If that is the case, don’t give up. Keep your integrity, and God will see you through.

And if you do have a strong wife with noble character, celebrate her. The fact that she will endure hardship with you makes her a prized possession—a crown to adorn your head.

REMEMBER:  When disaster strikes, draw strength from one another.

In summary, my wife Cynthia has and is the most noble character I have ever met.  I can’t imagine another woman who could stand beside me through thick and thin for over twenty years with the strength, grace, forgiveness, and resilience that she has.  Thankfully, strutting around in my self-absorbed kingly cloud is over.  With new revelation, I joyfully celebrate God’s gift and prize possession in my wife Cynthia; the true crown that adorns my head and helps us both be a Daily Champion.
