question

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Cor 6:2

What is the question of the ages? When it’s all said and done, what inquiry is the granddaddy that stands alone? As you decide your answer, please note that there are no limits to the resources you may use. My choice in finding the answer to such a profound question is in God’s Word, the Holy Bible.

Let’s start with Moses in the Old Testament when He was chosen by God to deliver the children of Israel from the bondage of Egypt’s Pharaoh. In a Moses moment of insecurity, he asked God who he should tell Pharaoh had sent him. God said, tell him I AM that I AM sent you. How appropriate! Only God could claim an everlasting, all-powerful, and unchanging name like I AM.

Fast forward to Jesus… In speaking to the religious leaders of the day, He referred to Himself as I AM in the Book of John, Chapter 8:58. Either Jesus lived before Abraham as He claimed and is the same everlasting, all-powerful, and unchanging I AM or He’s not.

We move to the encounter Jesus had with his disciples in Matthew 16:13-17. He asked in general, “Who do people say The Son of Man is?” Some said John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah or other prophets. Jesus paused after the mention of the various characters, and said to them – “But you, who do you say that I AM?” Peter responded by telling Jesus that He was “the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Jesus acknowledged that Peter was blessed because “flesh and blood didn’t reveal that it to him, but Jesus’ Father did from Heaven.” Not only that, He went on to proclaim that his Holy Spirited revelation would be the foundation of His ultimately victorious church. Matt 16:18

The physical setting may have been different back then, but the spiritual stage of the great I AM has always remained the same. It’s here where you and I enter into the picture. Our part is now. At this point, any of our worldly credentials are meaningless.

As always, our Creator, Producer, and Star of all is on the scene. The question of the ages must come from Him. As we focus and with ears to hear, His voice replays: “Who do people say that I am?” Some may say, “You’re just like Mohammed, Buddha, Confucius, or some other prophet.” The question then turns decidedly personal: “But YOU, who do you say that I AM?” The question of the ages is the Lord’s pointed qualifier for each of us.

Family and friends, let’s not miss the profound nature of settling who our personal director will be on Earth. When we do, not only will the question of the ages be clear, we will be ushered into His Kingdom Family and guaranteed a part to play forever—no questions asked!
