The Christmas season stirs up a host of interesting reactions and responses from people. For some it’s a grand time of celebration, presents, and family gatherings. For others, it’s a time of threat, feelings of isolation, and financial hardship. Sadly, some are too overwhelmed by situations or afflictions to even know Christmas is upon us.

To suggest that “good news” is available for all would seem like a naïve concept crafted straight from a world of fantasy. Granted, if the so-called “good news” were originated by me or even you, then there’s no doubt naïve and fantasy would justifiably take their bow. If on the other hand, the “good news” came from a Supernatural God or the Creator of all, then that would be an entirely different consideration. I’d like to share a short Christmas story from the Bible that falls into that category:

Our greatest gift, Jesus Christ, was born of a virgin named Mary, impregnated by God’s Holy Spirit. Jesus grew up, fully God and fully man. As fully man, he lived a sinless life and sacrificed Himself at Calvary as His willful act to take upon Himself the punishment for the sin of man, yours and mine included. He rose from the dead, as the only One ever to do that, walked the Earth, ascended into Heaven and He still lives! He promises to return for His Church and those of us who believe will experience eternity with Him in Heaven. Those of us who don’t – won’t!

Friends, the greatest story or best news ever not only identifies the Ultimate Hero, it defines and satisfies the three great matters that concern mankind—life, death, and eternity. It’s the heart and action of Jesus Christ (God) that upholds this wonderful holiday we call “Christmas.” The beauty of the prose in Luke 2:10-11 sounds this hopeful message: Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
