Apostle Paul preached Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. He also declared that if Christ didn’t resurrect from the dead then our faith was in vain. 1 Cor 2:2 ; 1 Cor 15:17
Many of us older folks who grew up in the Greater New Bedford, MA area have the benefit or influence of a parochial education. As such, we have a foundational teaching that puts us in touch or at least makes us aware of the details behind specific holidays on the calendar. I know this Holy Name attendee fits this mold—especially as it relates to this coming Easter.
Sadly, a large majority of our younger generation seems to have fallen away from pursuing an upbringing that features the ways and things of God. Family Life radio recently broadcasted statistics which indicate that 80% of the children in the USA do not attend church. One particular interview featured a nineteen-year-old who said he only knew of Jesus Christ in the context of people swearing.
For countless folks, Easter is a day dedicated to the likes of painted eggs, candy, bunnies, or the celebration of pagan rituals. From a man’s perspective, including mine for over 50 years, the Cross makes little or no sense whatsoever. Where is the miracle and what is the cause for celebration as it relates to a brutalized “religious” figure from the distant past?
God certainly does not need me to defend Him or any of His special occasions, but I’m inspired to share a personal testimony of why the true meaning of Easter is critical for people to know and understand. A little over sixteen years ago, I had the opportunity to stand in front of the Pacific Ocean while on vacation. The blend of vast water, beautiful sand, towering mountains, and painted sky literally brought me to my knees. The majestic view had the effect of setting my inner eye on the awesomeness of God; more specifically, it made me realize the magnitude and significance of what Jesus had done for me on the Cross over 2,000 years ago. Imagine… He so loved me that my sins and salvation were on His mind when he sacrificed Himself on those rugged beams!
Just as the Bible predicts, from that time to now, the shade cover of my previous view has lifted steadily. I have come to know more intimately this God who overcame sin, the grave, and death. Jesus Christ is alive indeed and His Spirit lives in me. It’s His perspective, not mine, that truly matters to me now. I believe His Biblical Word reveals His nature and will for man’s conduct called truth. In fact, Jesus said He was the way, the truth, and the life and that no one could come to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).
By faith, I hold that Jesus Christ died for me personally. He physically rose from the dead (unlike anyone ever) to live again and to live specifically and spiritually in me. What ownership of dynamic faith, hope, and joy that brings! The lover of my soul pursued me to the ends of this country to bless me with His gracious gift of an eternal relationship; a personal encounter far more than amazing!
So friends, stand right where you are and delight in your opportunity to receive His godly perspective. Life is something designed to hold great abundance. After all, He is risen for that very purpose! Happy Easter!
