“Words satisfy the soul as food satisfies the stomach; the right words on a person’s lips bring satisfaction.” Proverbs 18:20
I would never pretend to be a scientist, but I’ve learned that matter cannot be created or destroyed, only changed or transformed. If we run with this principle, it is possible to examine something rather mysterious–our spoken words.
Whatever we speak into existence travels via sound waves. As matter is neither created nor destroyed, these sound waves never really “disappear.” They actually convert to some other form of energy within another component of matter to be carried forward forevermore. Wouldn’t it be something if we could recapture those original sound waves from their places of storage? Even better, wouldn’t it be something to locate those sound waves, reconstruct them, and retrace them back to the origin or person who spoke them? Wow! Bye-bye to crank phone calls!
The Bible says that God spoke the world into existence. By faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by His word, so the things which are seen were not made of things which do appear (Heb 11:3). It further says that God is truth and whatever He says is reality.
So, if matter can neither be created or destroyed as far as science is concerned, then what if there were a transcendent Creator with the capacity to create, destroy, or transform everything? That’s something for all of us to never dismiss.
Matthew 12:37 says, “By our words, we’ll be justified or condemned. We will give account for every idle word spoken.” So in the grand scheme of things, our words matter and the Word of the One who created everything certainly does. Not only that, the objects He spoke into the glory of the heavens and the earth can clearly be observed and His voice can be heard through His biblical Word. When His words are drawn from Creation or Scripture, they trace to one source–the person of Jesus Christ or Almighty God.
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. And then the Word became flesh. Jesus came into the world to “testify to the truth” (John 18:37). He said He was the way, the truth and the life and no one could come to the Father except through Him. Quite simply, He is the standard which defines reality. That makes Him the fully recovered sound wave of the authoritative voice that first spoke all things into existence. Family and friends, this is God’s Word and the end of the matter!
Have an inspired and transforming week.
