Lord, You are wonderful in counsel and excellent in guidance! Is 28:29
Just imagine being a serious student at a prestigious ivy league-type college. You are majoring in chemistry with access to the school and world’s most renown chemistry professor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and for as long as you are a student. Imagining as we’d like, the reality of that ever happening is not there. In our message of hope this Thanksgiving week, let’s not be let down, but let’s step out in faith and believe an even greater possibility.
In Jeremiah 33:3, the Lord says “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” In Psalm 23, the Lord is my Shepherd and I shall not want. In James 1:5, it says that God’s wisdom is mine for the asking and He’ll give it to me liberally. With these and a host of other scriptures as a frame of reference, I was journaling on July 28, 2015. While writing, I got to a place where I was inspired to test The Professor of professors with a personally vital question. May I share the exchange with you? This is exactly what I asked my Heavenly Father and what I believe His Spirit revealed in response.
Father, please help me right now with my priorities. I need You to list them. Go ahead and I’ll write:
1) Your relationship with Me.
2) Your relationship with yourself – integrated, pure, single-minded – with discipline, direction and determination.
3) Your relationship with your family – Your wife first and in oneness with you. Work from the easiest to the most difficult – but not ignoring any member – Family community.
4) Your relationship with church family, as I bring Spiritual relatives into your life.
5) Your duty as a citizen – first, as a Kingdom citizen, and secondly as one with national, state and local duties to fulfill.
6) Practice the first five faithfully and the social flow to others will be more divinely invested and effective.
7) Rest in knowing I am your helper and change agent – help and change for real, not for show.
8) Nothing like a new beginning in Me!
So family and friends, we are all different, yet all the same when it comes to the One who craves a relationship; the kind that brings His love, light, peace, joy, wisdom, faith and hope to our journey. We may not be a student or have access to any college professor. Most amazingly, what we do have is the thankful opportunity to call upon the One who created and knows all. What other Teacher do we know who can forgive our sinful failure, listen to our cry or questions, and fulfill us with His round-the-clock Professorship? Go ahead, test Him and see for yourself!
