Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name Ps 103:1
In the late 1800’s, Chicago attorney, Horation G. Spafford’s only son died at a young age. Shortly after, he lost his real estate holdings in the great Chicago fire. Recovering, somewhat, he and his wife and four daughters planned a trip to Europe by boat. At the last moment, he was detained by business and his wife and girls went on without him. While at sea, the boat collided with another vessel. His wife was the only survivor; his four daughters perished at sea.
Rushing to his wife’s side, and in the area of yet another family tragedy, Horatio Spafford penned the classic hymn, “It is Well With My Soul.” Take a serious moment to absorb this man’s unyielding faith, in the face of what must have looked and felt like an overwhelming loss. May the Lord’s grace encourage us also to proclaim at all times… It is Well With My Soul!
