Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them in the truth: Your word is truth.” John 17:17
Arguing, at best, is usually a waste of time. It pits two sides with a no-surrender attitude. Personal truths are relied upon and lobbed as the weapons of engagement. Even if one side appears to best the other, some sort of negative fallout will likely ensue. Why is this so? Simply – Subjective truth always fades because it is not the objective truth. It follows that no war or argument can ever be truly won between foes using less than real weapons.
Here is something that is never a waste of time. It pits two sides dedicated to finding the objective truth, no matter what! In this context, there is no such thing as an argument, but a mutual and honest effort. Let me start by declaring that no mere human is capable of consistently representing objective truth. Either objective truth does not exist or it comes from an entity beyond human form. Come along with me now, as I take a side – not against you, but with you in discovering that objective Truth does in fact exist in the Divine Creator of all things, both visible and invisible, including heaven, earth, and every living being. His Name is Jesus Christ.
Jesus declared in John 14:6 that He was the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one could come to the Father except through Him. In John 1:17, it says the law came through Moses, but grace and truth came though Jesus Christ. In Revelation 19:11, Jesus rides a white horse and is called faithful and true.
Buddha, Confucius, Mohammad, Zoroaster, and the Dalia Lama were great religious leaders who rose to great heights during their life time as men on earth. None of the them, however, rose from the dead, or earned the famous quote from C.S. Lewis who said of Jesus, “You must make your choice: either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to”.
I submit to you from my side of the dedicated effort to find the objective truth, that the life and words of Jesus represent and defines objective truth. To overcome our own inadequacy, in John 16:13 Jesus promised to send us His Spirit of truth to guide, guard, and govern us.
Where do we go from here? Please agree or disagree – In either case, stay dedicated to discovering OBJECTIVE TRUTH, and may Jesus’ prayer in John 17:17 bless us in the only way that matters – His way!
